Our client is a dynamic UK-based accountancy firm seeking a diligent Bookkeeper with a focus on payroll to provide essential bookkeeping services to their clients. Your role will involve ensuring accurate client accounts, meeting deadlines, and maintaining high work standards. This is a remote position open to those living anywhere in South Africa.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Payroll Management: Accurately process payroll for clients, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and timely payment
  • Payroll Reconciliation: Ensuring payroll transactions are accurately reflected in the accounting system
  • Tax Compliance: Managing PAYE, National Insurance, and other payroll-related tax requirements
  • Employee Records Management: Maintaining up-to-date employee records, including salaries, benefits, and deductions
  • Payroll Reporting: Preparing payroll reports for clients and internal management
  • Reconciliation of Bank Accounts: Ensuring transactions match between bank statements and accounting records
  • Sales Ledger Management: Recording sales transactions, issuing invoices, and monitoring customer payments
  • Purchase Ledger Management: Recording purchases, processing supplier invoices, and managing payments
  • Posting Journals: Recording financial transactions in the general ledger
  • Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Comparing account balances to ensure accuracy
  • Management Account Reporting: Preparing financial reports for management
  • VAT Returns: Calculating and submitting VAT owed to tax authorities
  • CIS Returns: Reporting payments to subcontractors in the construction industr
  • Liaising with Clients and Internal Staff: Communicating with clients and colleagues as needed
  • Financial Software Management: Utilizing accounting software effectively for data entry, reporting, and analysis

Skills, Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years bookkeeping experience
  • Minimum of 2 years Xero Accounting Software experience
  • Proven experience in payroll processing and payroll tax compliance
  • Experience and confidence using Microsoft Office, especially Outlook and Excel
  • Very strong analytical, problem-solving, and issue-resolution abilities with an eye for detail
  • Excellent decision-making and judgment skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure
  • An organized and flexible approach to work
  • Excellent accounting skills including a solid grasp of taxation for individuals and small companies
  • Ability to work in a small team and take ownership of tasks
  • High commercial acumen and a self-starter
  • Experience with additional payroll software is advantageous
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity
