Description

Our client is a trusted and experienced accounting firm based in the UK. They are looking for a Junior Accountant to join their team. This role is reporting directly to the practice manager and director. You will oversee the technical processing of all clients’ accounts, tax returns, VAT returns, monthly payroll, and company secretary duties. Accuracy and attention to detail are critical to ensuring the smooth running of client assignments. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with excellent accounting and taxation knowledge. They should be highly analytical with exceptional attention to detail, able to make sound decisions under pressure. The candidate will be comfortable working independently while contributing to a small team. Strong communication skills and a flexible, organised approach to tasks are essential to ensure efficiency and success in the role.

This is a remote position open to those living anywhere in South Africa.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare annual accounts from Xero software to finalised accounts, including detailed working papers
  • Check client’s quarterly VAT returns via Xero accounting software, ensuring accuracy before submission to HMRC
  • Manage monthly payroll, post payroll journals, and handle statutory tasks related to payrolls
  • Respond to day-to-day client queries via email
  • Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded and maintained in financial systems, including general ledger entries
  • Process invoices, expense reports, and other financial documents, ensuring compliance with company policies
  • Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Collaborate with the finance team to facilitate month-end and year-end processes, preparing entries, financial statements, and reports
  • Assist with preparing audit schedules, gathering supporting documentation, and addressing inquiries for smooth audit processes
  • Support process improvements and assist with ad-hoc financial analyses
  • Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded, processed, and maintained in line with company policies
  • Achieve 100% accuracy in preparing financial documents, including client accounts, tax returns, and payroll
  • Meet deadlines for VAT returns, payroll management, and statutory reporting
  • Support the finance team in month-end and year-end processes
  • Provide high-quality client support by promptly addressing queries and ensuring client satisfaction

Skills, Experience & Requirements

  • Qualified accountant with completed SAIPA/SAICA articles
  • Strong knowledge of taxation for individuals and small companies
  • Proficiency with accounting software, particularly Xero and IRIS (advantageous)
  • Strong Excel and Word skills
  • Very strong analytical, problem-solving, and issue resolution abilities with an eye for detail
  • Excellent decision-making and judgment skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure
  • Organised and flexible approach to work
  • Self-starter with excellent accounting and taxation knowledge
  • Highly analytical with exceptional attention to detail
  • Able to make sound decisions under pressure
